Ray & I have been very excited over recent months working towards launching our new web site, guided heavily by our new friend and web expert Bernie.
We came to The Claremont from Birmingham over sixteen years ago to begin a whole new adventure having not owned a Bed & Breakfast before.
I would go so far as to say it was scary at times. Lots of friends, work colleagues and family wondered if working round the clock with your spouse was a good idea! I would agree maybe for some folk. However, we have both agreed that for us and our family it was a great decision.
Our First Summer
The photo above was taken during our first summer season in 2001. We had a lot to learn when we first arrived. There was a brief moment of panic in the kitchen during our first week when a guest requested poached eggs. Ray realised we hadn’t unpacked our poached egg pan or even knew where it was!
Ray’s Poached Eggs
Ray produced two poached eggs that were happily consumed with the guest being none the wiser. Ray’s poached eggs are now one of the most praised items in our guest reviews. He’s had plenty of practice!
There have been some difficult moments – the age of the building throws up challenges such as one extremely windy night the eaves from the side of the house fell down in the driveway.
There was a busy Sunday morning at breakfast when we heard banging and calling only to find a guest had locked herself in the bathroom and couldn’t get out!! How we solved that one is perhaps for another blog!
Over the years we have refurbished including all the en suites, installing up to date fire alarm system, re carpeted all three floors.

Lounge & Dining Room After Refurbishment:
We moved the dining room from a small dark rear room into the front much brighter, spacious one, where it is today.
We have a constant list of updates and improvements we’d like to do.
The new web site has a new set of photos for which we thank Adam of http://www.protoggy.com
Adam came along shortly after we refurbished our two first floor Classic rooms and we think he shows our Bed & Breakfast very well.
Take a look at our photo gallery to view more.
Now things are instant at the click of a button, our new web site allows you to see the room you’d like to stay, check availability and make your booking immediately.
We intend to build on this and encourage folk to use our direct facility and not use other booking agents. Please come back regularly or visit our social media pages as we will have competitions and offers.
We also share lots of information on our social media pages of events and activities to look forward to and recommend early booking as for popular events we fill up quickly.
The Claremont is our home where we warmly welcome our guests to relax and enjoy their stay. Whether you’re a frequent visitor or it’s your first time here, we hope to see you in 2018.
